There were more birches where I grew up in Ontario, and I find the texture of the bark soothing at any focal point. The birches here in the Northwest seem more mossy (as do many things), so I used a rich green as one of the texture choices. This tree in particular is in a school playground, providing the children a bit of protection from the rain.
