I Blurbed a Book!

With modern print-on-demand technology, it’s never been easier to put a book together, but goodness, it’s still hard! The blank page is formidable, whether I’ve got a brush or a keyboard.

I have been eyeing the Book module in Lightroom for a while. Adobe connected it right to blurb.com, so that I could — conceptually! — throw some images on a few pages, and make a book out of it; anyone could print it on demand, just like my Redbubble store. Easy enough, but where to start?

So, I’ve been thinking. And thinking! I had started several projects with good intention, as you do, but until recently, was very stuck in that blank page syndrome. What finally helped was putting together a tiny zine for my Northern Series project — and realizing it solved many issues: what to put on the pages, and in what order.

I should know this! Drafts and outlines are always the way to go. Have I forgotten my training as a technical editor? Insert head slap here. I went with simple: one image per page or spread, minimal text, and a softcover, smaller format.

Would you like a copy? Now that I’ve reviewed the finished product, printed on slightly higher-quality paper, I’m really pleased with how it turned out and delighted to share it with you. Order this small photo book directly from Blurb.com.

This process looks to be a great treatment for projects that haven’t otherwise seen the light of day. I’m off to look at those other, unfinished books and see if I can carry some momentum forward. Wish me luck!

Chime in!
