Show: Tickled Pink!

And yes, I am! How delighted I am to be in this show, online in July.

I’ve been tracking Woman Made Gallery for a while now, and a prior submission didn’t make it through. When we apply to shows, we cross our fingers, dot our Is, double-check the dates and requirements, then — poof, let the application go into the wind. This one might not be a fit, we say to ourselves. And many rejections come back to us, and we work to accept that this time, the time wasn’t right. But sometimes, when it does work out, it is a delightful reminder that sometimes, there IS a fit, and it feels wonderful.

The gallery asked us to submit work that finds “humor amidst uncertainty and being radically optimistic in a world that celebrates pessimism. Tickled Pink celebrates colorful artworks that invite viewers to feel contemplative, curious, and cheerful.”

I had to mesh that with my current obsession with pink, coming from a place of rejecting it previously. I said:

I’ve never been drawn to pink – that soft, feminine, comfortable color – until now. Pink has been calling to me, maybe yelling even. Just as landscape soothes me, so now does this hue. As I look back through my work, it’s been there, waving, and must have just gotten impatient with me. I’m using it in every piece I can think of.

I added that, while serious, this work was fun to create, serving as a record of the journey with a sense of hope. I hope you enjoy this collection, pulled together by juror Veronica Clements.
