Event: Spring Open Studio

Time to welcome in some fresh air and friendly faces! If you’re inclined to visit in person, please come by the studio the first weekend in May. We’ll be opening the doors, discussing art, and showing off new work.

When: Saturday May 6 from 10 am until 4 pm
Where: 4604 14th Ave NW (Bazaz Studios), in Ballard

For my latest project, I’ve been exploring abstract composition, by way of mathematical proofs. Why, you ask? There’s more background in my So Many Projects post and my Rectangle Sketches portfolio page. Here’s how some of the sketches looked, in a display test at the studio.

Will they look like this when you visit? No, they will not! I’ve got ideas for other ways to present it — overlapping? Sewn together?? Come join the debate, and see the pieces before they start their next journey. As you might know by now, these one-of-a-kind sketches will not remain in their current form for long. Once I’ve scanned and displayed them, they will morph into other forms: as digital layers, as base layers for other analog work, or printed over, cut up, or reused in some other way.

For now, though, these pieces, other recent work and experiments, and smaller prints and collages will be on display the first Saturday in May, along with work from my studio mates, the Bazaz sisters. If you’re in the area, there are other artists to visit that day, on the Spotlight North tour. I hope you can stop by.

There are other options, though, if you prefer. I can take appointments to meet you at the studio on a day or time that’s better for you, or I can give you a virtual tour from wherever you are.

Let’s figure something out if we can — let me know.
