World Collage Day Shows

I’m happy to report that I have pieces in two different World Collage Day exhibits in May — in different countries!

First, Andrea Lewicki, our intrepid leader of the Special Agent Collage Collective was thinking ahead, WAY ahead. With a venue already scoped out, she had us send in collages on labels, due by the end of February, envisioning them as a display for the month of May.

Just a few of the submissions for Mission 17: ColLABELage at Slip Gallery

These stickers, along with hundreds (hundreds, I tell you!) of other collaged and creative stickers, will be displayed in Belltown, in a month-long festival called Collage-o-Rama. The opening is May 10, from 6-9 pm — I’ll be there at the start, though no guarantees on staying through the end.

Then, as part of my Vancouver explorations, the lovely home-based gallery Atelier 8.18 had a call for mail art, to go with the current show entitled “Place, Memory, and Distance”. Since that’s something I’m very much thinking about, as I bounce between Seattle and Vancouver, I’ve worked up these submissions.

These 5×5 pieces have watercolor starts, fragments of pointy-roofed houses that I remember from childhood, snippets of family recipes, and some obscured photos of my much younger self. They’ll be for sale at $35CDN each, to support Atelier 8.18 costs. You can support them from afar, if you like, at the Atelier 8.18 online shop.

I would need to hit the road Saturday morning after the Seattle opening to make the Vancouver show — I hope I can do it! Will I see you at either one?
