Some work in progress moved to the finished pile! It feels great to move some of the piles along, now & then, but it does redirect my focus to the long list of to-dos needed to document new pieces.
Meetings & Making
I did manage a few meetings and making sessions this week, continuing to experiment with my scanned spelling book pages. I’m up to 7 or 8 options, with a few that just didn’t gel. These, I like okay.

It looks a little gold-heavy here. I’ll try not to repeat page spreads or backgrounds, but some of these just call for a particular background. I’m thinking about grids vs. natural lines, as with my Aerials series, and values: I do like a range of those.

And as part of my occasional participation in the Arizona Collage Collective call on Wednesday nights, I was delighted to receive some wonderful fodder for the current challenge: AZCC Word-o-lage. The assignment directed me to use a segment from a dictionary page, included, then to illustrate that word. So many good words on the page I got, but “eccentric” won out. Not simple, not great value range, but: fun!
Reading
Do you have an art reading list? I always seem to have at least one art book on the go. These days, a few more! Here’s my current — as in, actually reading all of them — pile:
- Get the Picture by Bianca Bosker
- Mapping the Intelligence of Artistic Work by Anne West
- Known and Strange Things by Teju Cole
Some of them, like the last entry, are shorter essays, easy to pick up and read just a bit. The middle one has jaw-dropping prompts on just about every page, so it requires a lot of thought and writing in between very short reading sessions. The first one is the most compelling to actually read, and is an illuminating look at the insides of the New York art world.
Applying
I decided on three candidates for a World Collage Day show in Vancouver, and got them ready to send. They won’t get titles, but they’re signed and dated, woo-hoo!

And my Clocking in for Unpaid Labo(u)r pieces have more elements to represent a busy day of tracking threads of tasks.

I’m okay with the concept, as it’s playing out, but I think I need a few more items, or some roughing up for texture… Pondering!
Finishing
I gave titles to some recent work in progress, added them to my inventory tracker, and uploaded them to Redbubble and here. Calling them done! That always feels good.
How about you — anything started, or finished?
