WIP Wednesday: Week 28

I was trying for a quiet week last week; this week, I really did it!

Meetings & Making

I quite liked one of the pieces I made last week, even though it didn’t fit anywhere at the moment, so I tried to chase that down this week.

I added a reliable layer of scribbles to this much-worked piece, along the bottom, and yes, it got MUCH better.

Since this is meant to be about work in progress, how about one that is NOT working? During Monday’s SLMM studio meeting, I made a few tweaks, one of which improved a piece. This one, though, had no such luck.

Ugh, what is it meant to be? It sure looks like a landscape. And it has many of my new palette faves. But it can’t be an aerial piece, without more grid-like elements. And it doesn’t have enough going on to make it more personal. Back on the pile, in case future inspiration strikes.

There you go: sometimes the tweaks resonate, but often, they don’t, and it’s only fair to show both.

Now, onto the one I like much better. Swipe to see the before (left) and after (right). In this case a big scribble (middle left) was not helping, for a change. A different scribble collage got swapped in, and improves the piece somewhat.

Viewing & Connecting

With company in town, I kept my First Saturday rounds to a minimum: Paneficio Gallery. As always, Valerie Arntzen gave us a warm welcome, and we had a lovely, extended chat about art, life, and Vancouver living.

Planning

No sign of my third print test yet. I thought I’d have it by now, but temporary logistics issues have prevented it. Going by what I know so far, though, all are good options, which is a relief.

If printing somewhere is at least possible, that means I can, theoretically, apply with show proposals, so that’s underway, for Atelier8.18.

Completing

For a quiet week, I did manage to finish documenting those seascapes, and they are up on Redbubble and here. As the heat of the season envelopes us, I wrote up a post to explain my urge to create them: Summer Memories. Here’s hoping we can all find peaceful waters when we need them.
