Shifting Seasons
I love the shift to cooler weather and the back-to-school vibe in the fall -- do you? When I asked around, I got some mixed reactions, but this year, it's working for me. I have a new series, a new studios, and new shows. Let's dive in!

First, I've just published ten new pieces in my latest series, titled Pretty/Angry. Uh oh, what's going on with that title? Well, it's abstract, it's full of angry marks and pretty colour, and each print will be unique. Read all about it in Getting the Message Across.

I think these would look wonderful as larger prints, and with the unique embossing I'm planning for each print, they're meant to be seen in person. I'll try to get some samples to my Seattle gallery, Lynn Hanson, and I'll have a smaller, test print at my Vancouver studio, so you could see what you think.

Speaking of which, yes, I'm now available for studio visits! Can you get to downtown Vancouver, Gastown, and then just east of there? I'm in an industrial building at 323 Alexander St, with access from the other side, on Railway St. It's a small space, but I have room to display some printed work, and a screen with a slideshow of digital work. It does have a window & a sink, so I'm hoping to do some painting there too. Let me know if you can visit. If not -- a virtual studio visit is a good option.

Shows Near You?
Because of said studio, I can now participate in Vancouver's open studios program, First Saturday. Which happens to be hosting a member show this fall... See my plan?

I'm hoping to bump into other artists who are usually off in their studios on said Saturdays. It's a lively community when we're all gathered!

And if that doesn't work -- we are all scattered, and local/in-person can be hard! -- keep an eye out for an online show at Aird Gallery. If I dotted all my Is and crossed my Ts etc, I'm hoping to be in their abstraction show during the fall.

On My Mind
|
I've been thinking about how to share art without over-producing. One of my options was an Etsy shop, for print-on-demand silk scarves, but without the de minimus exception, where smaller items can be shipped to the US duty-free, that doesn't look feasible. Print-on-demand in general is still how I want to proceed. But, for example, I'm not going to print ALL of my new series to show. I'd rather have a conversation over the one piece you love, and figure out together how to render it: a custom print to fit a spot in your home, an open edition accessory on Redbubble, or somehow, a silk scarf? All great options, and I'm sure there's more.

Let me know if you have ideas for ways to surround yourself with colour, texture, and lots of art. That sounds like a good goal to me, at least...
