I’ve been printing on aluminum, with encouraging reviews, using the sheer matte option from bayphoto.com. For the most part, that softer, more translucent finish has suited many of my images. But when I noticed another option at a neighborhood gallery, I realized I might be limiting myself. Bay Photo actually offers 4 finish options!
This print, Thaw, has been produced in an extended 12″x24″ format with the high-gloss surface option, resulting in a spectactularly shiny, glass-like panel of aluminum, which reflects the light in a far more reliable way. While I do love the softer matte finish, it needs to be lit very directly. The high gloss finish reflects light from more angles, giving it more display options.
To see this finish for yourself, come visit artEAST this holiday season. The gallery is shining with twinkle lights and lots of gift options. As you might know, I have some small seasonal pieces in their Small Works holiday show, and I’ve added some new cards and small encaustic pieces in time for the one-day Holiday Marketplace on November 30th. Let me know if you want to meet at the gallery!
