Work in Progress: Palette

I’m at my small printing press, holding my breath, as I pull up the layers of protective felt. What will I find on the inverted paper this time? Printmaking has such an element of surprise to it, because it happens under cover:  you wait until the end to find out if you used enough pressure, or got the effect you wanted.

Even better, I’m not trying to build up an image, just creating color and texture for digital layers. None of that dreary lining up of plates and paper, trying not to set anything askew. Now, I’ve got pieces like these, ready to scan and combine into new color composites for new work.

Very spring-like, no? Lots of fun and progress in the studio, I’m happy to say. Look for these colors tinting a work in progress soon!

Chime in!
