Some indications are fainter than others, but still nudge you in the right direction.
You might think this is a traditional landscape, with the dark line across the bottom. But reframe it as a natural division in the land, breaking a uniform set of fields and developed land with, perhaps, a cliff. Where would you avoid — civilization or the wilds?
This piece was started in 2021, with its base layer “some hidden valley” from the analog series; other layers are from 2023 and 2024. To alter the original, I used a couple of pieces from my Rectangles project to add more of a sense of the grid, and some gelli prints, and some watercolour experiments to alter the original colours. Lines, both faint and explicit, come from painted surfaces and a scan of the Paris metro system.
