A set of work exploring composition with two, very different halves, to represent conversations coming from different directions.

I was inspired by friends who try to hear a wide range of views, as well my own discussions, where I’ve failed to see the other side. Either way, each person is doing their best, believing their take wholeheartedly — each half needed to be appealing. Yet across the divide, very little is similar; there are echoes of shapes on each side, marks that reach across the middle, and references to similar colours.

The project started simply, by dividing sheets of 9×12 watercolour paper in half, and combing through my collage fodder piles for wildly different pieces to add to each side. I worked by hand for a while, then (of course) scanned them and continued digitally. For the full story, see the post Two Sides of the Conversation.
