Abstracting Summer
Now that I'm well past worrying about school schedules, I still look around in anticipation for summer vacation. Something to do with a summer birthday, and heading back to school once the fun is over. But really, life blends into itself, one week after the next, and I need to work hard to recreate that summer magic.

Imagine my delight, then, when I found out my work was chosen for Contemporary Art Chronicle's latest volume! It was like getting invited to a beach party with fun folks. Certainly a lovely summer present. Please enjoy the selections from Volume 9, seeing into and seeing from within, where I'm in great company.

To celebrate, I'll probably take some time off to bask, get in some reading, and note the calendar as it changes from July to August. I hope you can find some similar recharge time.

Other projects have moved into contemplation states. Last time, I talked about my Conversations project, which is now looking complete, visually, and is out for a printing bid. I think it should be postcards -- want some? If my local printer is amenable, I can place an order.

On My Mind

I keep running into AI advocates, insisting that I'm missing out, as well as more ordinary success stories, where AI has really helped some people in my circles. I'm more on the Luddite side of the argument, but with my technology background, I'm keeping an eye on things. I wrote about it here: The AI Conversation. Where do you land in all of that?

Other projects are percolating at my studio, not yet feeling like a whole. Which is perfect: I don't have to look at them all the time, and I can have you over for a studio visit to give me your take.

This one is a bunch (a BUNCH!) of little squares, all analog at this point, that mostly started as tests of watercolours. Then I added a randomizing factor: collage (of course), printmaking, stitching, scribbles, what have you. At that point, they didn't look like much, or like each other, so I took on the challenge of attempting to unify them, all 75. Now they pull from a common palette, and have repeated elements, but now what? I'm thinking about next steps -- there are SO many options! -- and maybe adding another random factor.

Having some projects heading toward done, and others nowhere near that state, is a good place for my brain to bounce around on. How do you manage all the demands for your attention, including making sure your top priorities get some of that time? Isn't that the kind of question that makes you want a summer vacation? I'll leave you with it, but hope you find a great balance.
